Worked on the coast
for many years, over 40 of them in Cook
Strait. When withdrawn from service, went
to Auckland where she has operated for various
owners carrying cargo and passengers in
the Hauraki Gulf
After operating ecology
tours to Hauraki Gulf islands for fifteen
years, increased berthage charges in Auckland
(caused by her being displaced from her
former berth due to America's Cup construction
work in the Viaduct Basin) compelled Aucklanders
Mike and Dee Pigneguy , co-owners of the
30-metre Te Aroha, to sell her. Purchasers
of the old vessel were Kaipara couple Avin
and Donna Curel, who based Te Aroha at Dargaville
to operate tours of unexplored sandy beaches
in the Kaipara Harbour, with a particular
view to affording opportunities for observation
of the abundant wildlife in the area. They
sailed Te Aroha from Whangarei around North
Cape to Kaipara Harbour during May 1999.
Cruises around the
Kaipara Harbour depart from Port Albert
(9kms West of Wellsford) Pahi.
