History

Steam harbour tug built in Britain during WW II as the Empire Jane, and brought to NZ in 1947 for use at Wellington. There is an unverified story that she participated in the Normandy landings of 1944. Owned by Union Steamship Co., sold to British Petroleum (NZ) Ltd. in 1975. Operated in Wellington harbour for 30 years until laid up in December 1977. Preserved on shore in Tauranga Historic Village from July 1978. Scuttled as an artificial reef on 19 March 2000 off Motiti Island, Mount Maunganui, in 37-39 S, 176-25 E.
