History
|
Scow-hulled schooner
with two longitudinal holds divided by a
centre-board casing; built to carry cargo
in the NZ coastal trade.
Echo has been at
Picton since June 1972. The Marlborough
Cruising Club used her as a clubhouse until
1992. Sold to Mr. Tim Dare and opened as
the "Echo Gallery" in November
1993, serving as a small scow museum and
cafe. She was restyled as the "Echo
Museum" in December 2000, still owned
by Mr. Tim Dare. She is open most days during
the summer as a scow museum, admission $3.
She lies ashore on blocks on the eastern
side of Picton Harbour, and a breakwater
was recently constructed to the north of
her.
